Indications/Uses
Essential HTN; renal disease, both early & late stage, in patients w/ HTN & type 2 DM as part of an antihypertensive drug regimen.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Initially 150 mg once daily. May be increased to 300 mg or other antihypertensives may be added.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Pregnancy & lactation.
Special Precautions
Vol- & Na-depleted patients by vigorous diuretic therapy, dietary salt restriction, diarrhoea or vomiting. Renovascular HTN, renal impairment & kidney transplantation, aortic or mitral stenosis or obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Primary aldosteronism, hypertensive patients w/ type 2 diabetes & renal disease, hyperkalemia. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery.
Adverse Reactions
Dizziness, fatigue, headache, flushing, musculoskeletal trauma, nausea/vomiting, abnormal urination.
Drug Interactions
Diuretics & other antihypertensive agents, K supplements & K-sparing diuretics, lithium, NSAIDs.
